Let’s do it.

I had Johnny Cockran taking my Flash Class during the OJ Trial. After 4 days in the class, he was walking out, he pulled me to the side and he said, “Bill, I finally get it. When you’re in Flash, if you want to effect, you’ve got to select!”

Ok, I’m lying. Johnny wasn’t in my class. I made this up. But it’s true. If you want to effect something in Flash, you have to select it first. To select any object in Flash, you use the black arrow tool.

1. Click in the middle of the oval.
2. Notice in the middle of the tool bar you see the word “colors.” Under the word
colors, notice a pencil and a paint bucket. Notice the two little color squares next to
pencil and the paint bucket. Notice if you hold down on one or the other of those
little squares, you see color swatches.
3. Click on your fill, hold down on the paint bucket color swatch option and choose a
color. Notice your fill changes color.
4. Use the black arrow tool to select the stroke. Click on the pencil under the word
colors, then use it’s color swatch to change the color of the stroke.

1. Open the swatch panel. Go....Window>Design Panels>Color Swatches.
This opens the swatch panel.
2. On the tool bar, under the word color, click the pencil (stroke). Notice in the tool
bar the pencil gets a white background. This means you can control stroke color.
3. Click the paint bucket under the word colors, notice its background turns white. Now
you can control fill color.
4. Click on the fill in your oval. Click the fill indicator in the tool bar and click around
in the swatch box to change the color of you oval. Do the same with stoke.

Another panel to assign color.

(you may have to click the play button)
1. Open the color mixer. Go....Window>Design panels>Color Mixer.
2. Look at this thing. The swatch box we opened earlier only has a few colors. This
Color mixer has 16.7 million colors. Drag around in the little color box in the color
mixer to choose a color. If you want to add this new color to your swatch box, in
the color mixer, you’ll see a drop down menu in the upper right hand corner of
the color mixer. If you click on it, you’ll see the option to “add swatch.” This puts
that color in the swatch box. If you save your file, this color is saved in this files
swatch box.
So there you have it. Assigning color to objects. But what if you don’t want the fill or the stroke. What if you want an oval with no stroke, or no fill. Let me say this right now. Stroke can be a real pain. Many times if you don’t kill the stroke, that means get rid of it, it can cause you many problems. You’ll see.
