A Strange way to manipulate objects. Moving Vectors.

Well, I told you earlier that these shapes we’ve been making are Vector Objects. You probably don’t believe me. let’s take a look at them. Let’s clear your screen of that big mess you have.

Unique to Flash, if you double click the eraser in the tool bar, everything goes away. Simple eh?

Let’s do it.

1. Now that you’ve cleared the stage, draw an oval with no stroke in the middle of the stage.

2. Select the white arrow tool at the top of the tool bar, then , click on you oval. Look at the blue line around your oval and the four little squares on the oval.   The blue line is called a path.  The blue squares are called anchor points. Where ever their is a curve or angle, their is an anchor point.

Notice that you can drag the anchor points around to reshape the object. This is a course in itself, and I’m not going there in this section.

There is another way to manipulate the shape of this circle without using the white arrow tool.

3. Select the black arrow tool. Make sure that nothing is selected. Move the black arrow tool so that it is right on the edge of the circle. Notice that under the black arrow you see a little curve pop up. When you see the curve, hold the mouse down and drag away from the circle. Notice the shape of the oval changes. You are dragging anchor points around without even seeing them.

If the circle would have been a rectangle, when you hovered over the angle of the rectangle, instead of a curve , you would have seen a right angle. Then, you could drag the corners of the rectangle around to change the rectangle’s shape.
