I am Cathy Howell
, an educator of young children for 22 years. After receiving my undergraduate degree from Bluffton College I began my profession in special education and later taught in a preschool setting. In addition to expanding my knowledge base with more university course work, I learned (and continue to do so) by "jumping in with both feet" and trying what I believe to be best for kids? I've been fortunate to be recognized as a Teacher of Excellence in my county and I continue to value all the support and encouragement I receive.
I've been teaching Kindergartners the past 11 years- learning and growing along with my students? Because I nurture all learning styles, my program incorporates a combination of whole group instruction and learning centers. My hope is to always provide developmentally appropriate practices for my children. I believe in active learning with reliance on manipulatives and "hands-on" activities.
A thematic approach provides a focus to my teaching and for my students learning as much as possible. I try language arts, math, science, social studies, health, music and art activities to pull the theme together. The problem is that I can never find enough time to do all the super ideas available? I get the majority of my ideas from colleagues, workshops and books. I am excited to share some of what I do with you through this web site. Hopefully, you'll find ideas that will work for you. I wish you a career full of fun and success?
